Mark er en afdanket, kluntet og fattig wannabeskuespiller. Han tager sig af sin bror, der er lam, og bøvler med sin kæreste, Sally, der ikke gider deres forhold længere. Hans liv handler om at gå til prøver på roller, som han aldrig får, snyde viceværten for huslejen og snakke med overboen Pearce. Marks lejlighed sejler ligesom hans liv: køkkenvinduet binder, loftet er ved at falde ned og lyset fungerer ikke. En dag skal alt dette dog ændre sig for den desillusionerede Mark. Da lysekronen falder ned og dræber den paralyserede bror, er gode råd dyre, og da den ophidsede vicevært glider i køkkenet og ligeledes dør, ser situationen sort ud for Mark...
